This course is accredited by the Institute of Healthcare Development (IHCD) and is designed for people who require a higher level of skill than an HSE First Aid at Work certificate. The aim of the course is to provide the trainee, who will respond or deal with pre-hospital emergencies with the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to make safe, effective interventions confidently and competently in life threatening situations.

The course lasts for 5 days with assessments and competencies undertaken on the afternoon of the fifth day. This qualification lasts for 3 years; there is a one day update every year to ensure no loss of competence and to update the responder of any changes to procedure. After 3 years this is followed by a two day re-qualification course.

This course is five days. 12 people maximum.
